May · Day 23
The end of all things is near
Reading
Practical meditation
Peter says that the end of all things is near; therefore, we must be sober and watchful in prayer. The nearness of the end does not produce hysteria, but clarity. Short time reveals what is unnecessary.
The scattered soul lives as though it had endless days to obey later. But sobriety interrupts that lie. We do not control the length of life, but we are responsible for the direction of today’s response.
Prayer gathers the spirit before God. It draws us out of noise and returns us to what is essential. When we remember that time is brief, certain distractions lose the right to govern.
Examine
What distraction loses the right to govern my day when I remember that time is brief?
Prayer
Lord, give me sobriety and prayer. Gather my spirit before you and deliver me from spending my days on what does not remain. May Christ order my time and simplify my heart. Amen.
Practice
Let us set aside ten minutes of prayer today without phone, background music, or negotiation with haste.
